13 inches of Disappointment
There were many things I loved about the new 15 inch MacBook Pro with Retina but weight and size wasn't one. Coming from a 13 inch MacBook Pro, the 15 inch MacBook Pro with Retina just felt a little too big and a little too heavy, despite the all new slimmer design.
When rumors of a 13 inch Macbook Pro with Retina starting popping up I got really excited. All the power of the 15 inch but in a much more portable package. Surely this is the perfect laptop for me. That is until they actually announced it.
The 13 MacBook Pro with Retina is a watered down version of the 15 inch. No i7 unless you pay extra and no discreet graphics card. I understand that the resolution is lower so it doesn't need quite as much power to push those pixels. However using the 15 inch Retina day to day I noticed jitters when scrolling webpages and slow frame rates in games. Clearly there's barely enough power to handle all those pixels. So logically if Apple would have stuck those specs into the 13 inch I think it would be a winner. As is you're left with a heavier, thicker and pricier MacBook Air.
Honestly if you're looking to purchase a MacBook, just save your money and get the Air. The MacBook Air's design will carry Apple into the future. It's the best laptop they currently make.
